Membership Manager

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Commercial Dept is a key revenue generator for the club and an area in which the club is making significant investments for future growth. The Commercial area is made up of Fan Experience and Brand Development, Retail, Partnership sales and servicing, Digital Media and Event Planning and Execution.  

JOB PURPOSE

Arsenal has one the largest and best executed subscription membership schemes in world football.  The Club has approximately 230,000 members across the paid for subscription membership tiers.  In Sept 2013 the Club launched its first Free Digital Membership scheme and has attracted over one million members since launch.  The membership scheme underpins £100m of matchday revenue as tickets to watch Arsenal play at Emirates Stadium are only sold to paying members.  A healthy membership scheme protects and grows demand for season tickets, matchday tickets and a variety of stadium based activities.

Digital membership is a major data acquisition scheme that supports both B2C and B2B opportunities globally and growth of this membership tier is a key priority.

The Membership Manager (China) is responsible for leading the development and the implementation of the Club’s adult membership marketing strategy in China. The role will deliver the ambition of the membership scheme to retain and grow the membership base, and to maximise revenue and profitability from members within the scheme.

The ideal candidate for the role will be an ambitious membership marketing expert, with rich experience managing membership programs in a consumer focused environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the China commercial team to turn marketing objectives into measurable fans engagement KPIs to assist the business in reaching its growth objectives.

RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Management responsibility for:  Membership Marketing Executive, China

Reports to:  International Business Development Director, China and Asia  

Main focus: Manage China membership scheme 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Membership 2018/19 (Balance of year)

  • Work closely with UK membership team to drive recruitment with Red level in China. Manage recruitment programme against agreed schedule and course correct as necessary
  • Manage tickets application on Chinese membership website
  • Members Day: Lead thinking for events in 2018/19 season and implement via Event and Fans Engagement team within China
  • Produce proposal and business case for the introduction of new premium and junior membership tier with the aim of launching them for the 2019/20 renewal period
  • Player Access: Manage schedule of content development for membership and ensure high levels of production quality are maintained via Club Day
  • Produce proposal and business case for the introduction of member feedback surgeries and suggestion panel to make fans feel closer to the Club
Membership Renewal Strategy 2019/20
  • Quickly establish way of working and relationship with agency to develop 2019/20 membership campaign and creative
  • Develop theme to stretch across entire season and across all relevant marketing collateral e.g. membership website, renewals EDM, membership pack and online collateral, including specific content
  • Deliver marketing strategy to maximise retention and recruitment across all Club / external channels in China including online/social media, events, China tour and email
Membership Reward Scheme
  • Lead agency creative brief for the scheme and introduction of marketing communication plan
  • Engage partners around the scheme to help scale up the number of rewards available to members
  • Produce relevant video content that can be provided to members as rewards as a way to drive Arsenal Player engagement
Management
  • Coach and develop membership marketing exec within role
  • Produce clear PDR Objectives and development plan for membership marketing exec.


MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/Qualifications/Training:

Educated to good degree level 

Specific Experience:

Proven track record in high profile membership marketing department on the MNC clients’ side in a consumer focused environment with 3+ yrs experience

Excellent analytical, reporting and presentation skills

Strong agency management skills (pitch, selection, brief, feedback etc)

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

Fluent in English/Mandarin (both written and oral), excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Energetic, passionate, responsible and a self starter

Ability to manage and nurture a network of stakeholders and relationships is critical and candidates must demonstrate evidence of this. Must make and sustain good impression and have gravitas

Must blend analytical skills with creativity

Curiosity around human motivations and insight into football fans

Being a sports and football fan is an advantage

Requirements 

40 hours, 5 days a week. Ability to work some late night, weekends and public holidays as and when required.
